Seniors v Gullane

The match fell on Thursday 22nd Jan, a day not blessed by some of the great weather we’ve had throughout the winter. The wind was blowing and the rain was falling and some of our opponents weren’t too keen to play, not to mention our own finely honed athletes.

Captain Gary, democrat to a fault suggested a vote for both teams to play or not. The upshot was some did, some didn’t, want to play. Happily, there was no recount and 4 matches went ahead but not before the obligatory bacon butties were consumed to fortify the golfers and the players facing an exacting drive home in the rain. Lo and behold when play began on the hallowed links of No 1 the rain stopped! It’s reported though that the wind kept blowing and it was bitterly cold. However, the players soldiered on and after bravely keeping to their task it’s with sadness that we report Gullane triumphed 3½ to ½. There were some highlights however despite the dreich conditions. John Garner gave a demo of some trick shot putting that was apparently mighty impressive, the details of which remain under wraps. The Skipper gave a fine speech extolling the now famous 3 C’s, catering, course and comradeship but resisted the temptation to castigate the chaps that didn’t play! All was well once the guys had chomped their way through the fine scampi, steak pie and pudds. Gary’s final duty of the day was to break the news to beancounter Dougie that he had waived the £15 match fee due to the inclement weather. Dougie was last seen crying into his bowl of gruel
