If you have been at the club in the last few days you will have seen various tradesmen performing numerous tasks around the clubhouse.

In view of the pipework routes through walls and floors it was necessary to ensure we did not have any asbestos present in the areas concerned. I am happy to report that only minor items will require to be rectified, two radiators and a small piece of carpet. This will not delay the start of the renovations. A plumber has been instructed and he will be on site on 30th January to start the job. A concrete plinth is being constructed behind the visitors’ changing room. On top of this will sit a steel container and the pump machinery for the CH system will be housed within that in due course.

As the routing throughout the clubhouse will involve areas relative to lockers can I ask members to remove their golfing and other valuables from the lockers over the next week. The Club cannot and will not be held responsible for any items lost or damaged whilst the CH renovations are being undertaken and removing these items will ensure this does not happen. Please make sure lockers are empty by Sunday 29th January. Thanks

Effectively the clubhouse will be a building site for the month of February and off limits to Members. We are in course of hiring Portacabins to create temporary accommodation to cover Ladies & Gents changing rooms, toilets and a general area for bar & snacks. This will be sited in the carpark. Our timetable indicates completion by 1st March provided there are no complications along the way.

Juniors

As I indicated last time we have been successful in increasing our Junior numbers for the season ahead, which is fantastic news. As a welcome to start the Season and give Juniors and their parents an idea of the year ahead we are holding a buffet lunch on Sunday 29th January at 2.30pm. Those Junior members on our register already know but please pass this information on to any others who may be considering joining us this season. All welcome. If you are adding any new names please advise Chris Stirling Junior Convenor or Keith Martin , General Manager so that catering will meet the needs of those attending. Thanks

150th Anniversary Events

By now, hopefully, you have collected your Anniversary Bag Tag. Unfortunately our Tee Bag supplier has let us down in terms of delivery but we are assured they will be here soon.

We start the “ball rolling” with the Men’s 150th Anniversary Dinner on 3rdMarch.

This is quickly followed by a Captain v Vice Captain Match to start the golfing part of the year on 11th March.

Golf in Scotland have asked to bring one of their events to Kilspindie. A Senior Open Scramble on 18th April.

The British Golf Collectors Society have challenged Kilspindie to a Match using Hickory clubs. We have negotiated some financial support from East Lothian and the equipment being used will be hired at no cost to members on 27th April. It will be followed the next day with a 150th Anniversary Hickory Open. Again the equipment will be available for members at no cost and “dressing for the occasion” will be acceptable on 28th April.

On 6th May we will be holding a 4 club Texas Scramble for the Wemyss & March Quaich.

Each team will be made up of a member from Kilspindie, Craigielaw,Longniddry and Musselburgh clubs. Hence the name title for the event. We hope this will continue in future years by rotating around the four clubs mentioned and on these occasions you will be able to make up your own teams.

On 16th June the club will host a Dinner for all Past Captains & Directors to honour the work they have done over the years.

On 8thJuly we are going to hold a 150th Open Medal. The Open on this occasion refers to the competition being open to all classes of member on the same day. Later in July, the 28th, we will be holding a 150th Anniversary Dinner at the Balmoral Hotel. Transport will be laid on from Aberlady for those that require it.

We would like to hold a Mixed/Guest Invitational & Barbeque on 19th August and hopefully involve members from Leven Thistle & St Andrews Ladies clubs .

On 10th September we are going to celebrate the history of the club by playing a match involving both Kilspindie & Aberlady clubs.

Kilspindie & Luffness New will be hosting the World Hickory Championship from 2nd October to 4th October. There is talk amongst the Hickory community that some big names may be attracted. Let’s wait and see.

And the final event of the 150th year will be the Ladies 150th Anniversary Dinner on 9th December.

Ladies & Gentlemen , a busy year and I sincerely hope you will get involved with as many of these events as possible. In that way you will extract maximum enjoyment from our Anniversary year.

Facebook Fan Page

I hope you are enjoying the information being posted on this medium. Please remember however, it is a commercial page created to supply worthwhile information to members and visitors alike. We know it is being viewed as far afield as Sweden & USA. For that reason alone post need to be meaningful. Used correctly, the page is an asset of the club and it should not be used for social chit chat like a personal page would be. If you have any queries regarding the running of the club please address them to me and my fellow Directors , or the General Manager directly. Do not use the F/B fanpage for that purpose. Thanks.

Till next time.

Kind regards,
